The arrival of spring brings with it the much-appreciated return of warmth and brightness after the dreary months of winter. Because of this, many of us celebrate the arrival of spring with beautiful pastels, blooms in full bloom, and other indications that the days will soon get lighter and longer. It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of Easter, with its Easter egg hunts, Easter baskets loaded with fun, festive treats, and other treasured holiday traditions.

However, it is important not to forget that Easter is a symbol of something much larger for Christians all over the world: the resurrection of Jesus.

Because Easter Sunday does not always fall on the same day from year to year, you should first check the calendar before beginning to arrange the annual celebration that your family will participate in. We have advanced beyond that point: Discover the date of Easter in 2023 and learn how to accurately forecast the holiday's occurrence in the years to come.

When will Easter fall in the year 2023?

If you want to know when Easter is celebrated, you need to think back to the beginning of the season. The traditional beginning of Lent is known as Ash Wednesday, and it occurs on February 22 of this year. The Lenten season, which begins on Wednesday, February 22, and ends on Thursday, April 6, requires followers of Christianity to engage in acts of penance, abstain from food, and engage in introspection each day for a total of forty days.

The Christian holy week begins on Palm Sunday, which falls on the 2nd of April in this year's calendar. This concludes seven days of significant religious observance for Christians and marks the end of the countdown to Easter Sunday. Maundy Thursday, also known as Holy Thursday, marks the official end of Lent and occurs three days before Easter. The final two days of Holy Week for Christians are called Good Friday and Holy Saturday. The culmination of the holy week is the celebration of Easter Sunday, which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, Easter is a "movable feast" that can take place anytime between March 22 and April 25. This is in contrast to holidays like Halloween and Christmas, which have a defined date. Easter will be celebrated on Sunday, April 9, 2023, which is almost one month earlier than in the previous year (April 17).

How is the Easter date determined?

The first Sunday after the full moon that occurs on or around the vernal equinox is traditionally designated as Easter. This full moon is known as the Paschal Full Moon. Easter falls on April 9 this year because the first full moon after the spring equinox comes on Thursday, April 6. This year's Full Pink Moon means we'll wear pink to celebrate. In the event that the first full moon falls on a Sunday, Easter is moved to the Sunday that comes after it.

Why is the holiday of Easter celebrated in the springtime?

The Bible states that Jesus Christ died and was resurrected around the time of the Jewish Passover, which occurs in either March or April. The holiday of Passover, which is sometimes referred to as a festival of freedom, begins at sundown on April 5 and continues until evening on April 13.
